The Premio Vigata in the centenary year

The year 2025 held a special significance for Porto Empedocle: it marked the centenary of the birth of Andrea Camilleri, who was born in the city on September 6, 1925. The Premio Vigata theatre festival, dedicated to the memory of the writer and organised by the Municipality with the Terra di Vigata Association, confirmed itself again this year as a summer appointment with popular Sicilian theatre in Piazza Kennedy, under the artistic direction of Giovanni Volpe.

Around the festival, the city experienced a year full of celebrations dedicated to the creator of Montalbano: from the centenary days in early September, with meetings and conferences in the former goods warehouse of the central station, to "Oltre Vigata" (November 20-23, 2025), a journey through memory, literature, and community. A summer and autumn dedicated to theatre, culture, and the unbreakable bond between Camilleri and his Vigàta, in the province of Agrigento.
