Edition 2025 — Post-Unification Brigandage

Following the initiatives dedicated to the memory of Maiella brigandage, the territory of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella and Roccacaramanico continued in 2025 to promote the history of the massif's armed bands, a recurring theme in local culture and the routes of the Maiella National Park.

The theme of post-unification brigandage is deeply rooted in the history of Roccacaramanico and Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, in the province of Pescara. The hamlet was indeed among the centers affected by the raids of the armed bands that, between 1860 and 1871, resisted the new Kingdom of Italy by exploiting the rugged morphology of the Maiella. Cultural initiatives and hiking trails dedicated to the "brigands' paths" have kept this memory alive, enhancing the historical sites and the heritage of the mountain village along the Abruzzo Apennines.
