The masked festival in the historic centre of the village, with confetti, a band, and the Luna Theatre
The Polverigi Carnival is one of the most beloved winter events in the small village of the Province of Ancona, in the heart of the Marche region. Organised by Pro Loco Polverigi, it's a popular and family-friendly festival that transforms the historic centre into a whirlwind of colours, music, and smiles: for an afternoon, the streets and the square are filled with masks, confetti, and children in costume.
The highlight is the parade of masks and masked groups that starts from the historic centre and crosses the square to reach the Teatro della Luna (Luna Theatre), the village's small theatrical gem. Accompanying the procession is the Polverigi Civic Band, which sets the rhythm for the festival with its music. There's also a prize for the best masked group, which stimulates the imagination of adults and children alike in preparing costumes and disguises each year.
The Polverigi Carnival is designed primarily for children and families. Activities include face painting, entertainment with characters and performers, games, and lots of confetti. It's the perfect opportunity to experience Carnival in its most authentic, village-like dimension, far from the crowds of big cities, in a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere.
Polverigi is a small municipality in the hinterland of Ancona, known throughout the Marche region for its cultural focus: it is home to the renowned performing arts festival and the charming Luna Theatre, as well as the historic Villa Nappi with its park. The Carnival represents the most popular and traditional face of this community, a time when the entire village comes together to celebrate.
In case of bad weather, the event takes place entirely indoors at the Luna Theatre.
