Edition 2025 — Pisan New Year

On March 25th, 2025, Pisa symbolically entered the new year according to the ancient Pisan calendar. At 11:00 AM, the historical costume pageant departed from Piazza XX Settembre, crossing Palazzo Gambacorti and the Ponte di Mezzo to Piazza dei Miracoli; at noon, the sunbeam ceremony in the Cathedral marked the transition to the new year, preceded by the liturgy of the Annunciation.

The 2025 edition

The 2025 edition of the Pisan New Year confirmed the charm of one of the city's oldest traditions. On March 25th, at 11:00 AM, the procession of city representatives in historical costumes, accompanied by drummers and flag-wavers, departed from Piazza XX Settembre, crossing Palazzo Gambacorti, the Ponte di Mezzo, and Via Santa Maria until reaching Piazza dei Miracoli.

At 11:45 AM, the liturgy of the Annunciation took place in the Cathedral, culminating at precisely noon with the sunbeam ceremony: a ray of light, filtering through a window of the Duomo, struck the marble oval next to the pulpit of Giovanni Pisano, marking the entry into the new Pisan year. Numerous side initiatives took place in the preceding days, including performances, markets, and re-enactments in the historic center.
