Piantè Magg

The 2025 Piantè Magg confirmed the vitality of one of the oldest rural traditions in the Roero. In the San Rocco hamlet of Montaldo Roero, residents hoisted the May pine by hand in a friendly challenge between man and nature, experienced as a moment of high adrenaline and great community involvement.

The day opened with the Cantè magg workshop, led by Olga Scarsi and Daniele Celtic, where many children learned the songs and traditions. This was followed by the Cantè magg quest in the courtyards and the floral procession with the May bride carrying the erborin, the propitious sprig. Among the promoters and keepers of these traditions was Beppe Giacone. The festival concluded in the square with music, wine, and sweets.
