Edition 2025 — Periferie Teatrali
Periferie Teatrali 2025
The first edition of Periferie Teatrali brought theatre to the most vulnerable neighbourhoods of Messina from 4 to 11 August 2025, with evening performances at 7:00 PM. Promoted by the Fondazione Messina per la Cultura together with the municipal administration and the Metropolitan City, the festival transformed squares, courtyards, and parks into open-air stages.
The signature show of the edition was "Icaro – l'ultimo volo", featuring actor Luca Fiorino, directed by Nicola Alberto Orofino, with text by Salvatore Arena: the story of Vanni, a man on the margins caught between intense visions and poetic impulses, a reflection on social exclusion, resistance, and the dignity of desire. The performance travelled aboard a MotoApe-Thespian wagon.
The stops included Salice (Campetto della Canonica), Briga Marina, Sperone, Giostra, Camaro Superiore, Torre Faro, San Placido Calonerò, and Ortoliuzzo, crossing the suburbs of the metropolitan city of Messina, in Sicily.
