Pennone a Mare - Soapy Pole Festival

The Pennone a Mare - Soapy Pole 2025 was held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Molo Caligoliano, in the Darsena dei Pescatori of Pozzuoli. The competition opened in the late afternoon, with a start time announced for 6 PM, in front of a crowded harbor.

Sixteen competitors appeared at the starting line, almost all local fishermen, called upon as always to traverse the fifteen-meter pole coated in animal fat to snatch one of the three flags before falling into the sea. The organization was handled by the Pro Loco Pozzuoli together with the Palo di Sapone Committee in memory of Biagio Rezzo and the Santa Maria delle Grazie Parish, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pozzuoli.

Around 7 PM, after the competition, Holy Mass dedicated to the Assumption was celebrated, followed by a procession through the streets of the historic center. The day was part of the Pozzuoli Ferragosto 2025 program, organized from August 13th to 16th between the Darsena and the port area, featuring free concerts, shows, fireworks, and the preview of the festival dedicated to bluefish.
