Edition 2025 — Saint John in Vacone
The 2025 edition of the patronal feast of Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist took place in Vacone on December 27th, as every year two days after Christmas. The day followed the usual ritual of the Sabina reatina village: Mass in honor of the patron in the parish church of Saint John the Evangelist, a 12th-century Romanesque building, followed by the convivial moment of the community lunch organized by the Pro Loco.
The star of the table was padellaccia, the winter dish of the Sabina tradition made of polenta topped with sauce, cheese, and pork trimmings, served as a living narrative of the village's peasant customs—"in Vacone, traditions are told at the table," as the festival's communication reminded us. The afternoon concluded with the traditional tombola, which brought together families and generations of the small municipality in the province of Rieti.
