Floats and masks in the heart of Passo di Treia
The Passotreiese Carnival is one of the most keenly felt events in the festive calendar of the province of Macerata, in the Marche region. It takes place in Passo di Treia, a hamlet of the Municipality of Treia, and over the years has become a true pillar of the local community's social life. With over sixty years of history, it is one of the longest-standing and most deeply rooted carnivals in the Macerata hinterland.
The heart of the event is the grand Fat Tuesday parade, when the hamlet's streets transform into an open-air stage. The allegorical floats and masked groups come from all over the region and compete with creativity, sets, and choreography. In recent years, groups from Amandola, Mogliano, Corridonia, Loro Piceno, Monte San Giusto, and Passo di Treia itself have participated, each with a different theme, from Disney fairy tales to tributes to Italian music, and even messages of peace.
The Carnival is not just the final parade: the celebration traditionally opens with the Children's Carnival, dedicated entirely to the youngest, with games, entertainment, and lots of fun. Parents from the nursery school actively collaborate to allow children to participate in costume, making the event a moment of sharing for the entire community.
Live music and entertainment accompany the festival, with the hosting in recent years entrusted to the voice of Giusi Minnozzi and the rhythm of DJ Luca Moretti, live on Multiradio, and with the participation of the Birbanda of Macerata. The organization is managed by the Associazione Passo dopo Passo (Step by Step Association), which has taken over the baton of a historic tradition with the patronage of the Municipality of Treia. Admission to all shows is free.
