Palio delle Contrade of Aquilonia

The tenth edition, from August 9th to 14th, 2025

The Palio delle Contrade of Aquilonia celebrated its tenth edition in 2025. The program was presented on Wednesday, August 6th at 6:00 PM in the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Aquilonia, in a public ceremony featuring the presentation of the games and the delivery of the banners to the districts. The official opening of the competitions took place on Saturday, August 9th.

For six days, the four districts—San Giovanni, Belvedere, Immacolata, and Calvario—competed in over thirty events, including traditional games, skill challenges, sports activities, and entertainment, with the participation of all age groups. The central theme of the edition was Carbonara, the ancient village destroyed by the earthquake of July 23, 1930, which marked its 95th anniversary in 2025.

The event concluded on the evening of Thursday, August 14th with the Cart Race, the final event contested with the characteristic wooden carts mounted on ball bearings. The organization was handled by the Pro Loco Aquilonia “Dante Castucci” together with the “Palio delle Contrade” group, the Youth Forum, the “Beniamino Tartaglia” Ethnographic Museum Association, and the Polisportiva Aquilonia A.S.D.P.S.
