Palio and Certame of the County of Popoli

The 20th Palio and 27th Certame of the County of Popoli reached its peak on August 3, 2025. The day began at 5:30 PM with the historical procession from the Ducal Palace Courtyard towards Piazza della Libertà, accompanied by the Flag-wavers of L'Aquila and participants from the four districts: Castello, Sant'Anna, Torre de l'Aia, and Attoja.

At 6:00 PM, the Crossbow Palio began; in the evening, the Certame featured costumes and sets, the lighting of the crossbowmen, the joust between two knights for the hand of Madonna Diana at 9:45 PM, stilt-walker performances, and exhibitions by the trumpeters, drummers, and flag-wavers of the Historical Group of the City of Popoli, followed by the fireworks display. The season was inaugurated on July 6 with the Crossbow Tournament and continued from July 23 to 26 with the Nights of the Districts.
