Padua's great marathon passes through the heart of the spa town
The Padova Marathon is one of the most important running events in the Veneto region and also passes through Montegrotto Terme, a spa town in the Euganean Hills in the province of Padua, every year. The race, organized by Assindustria Sport, offers the classic 42.195 km marathon, the half marathon, and non-competitive city runs over short distances, open to families, schools, and groups of friends.
The route crosses the center of Montegrotto Terme, passing through Corso delle Terme, Via Roma, Viale Stazione, and Via Marzia. In particular, the half marathon, starting from the spa area between Abano and Montegrotto, immediately crosses the town center. Traffic closures are planned for the morning during the runners' passage, with the town rallying around the athletes in a festive atmosphere.
The marathon course covers an area of great scenic and cultural charm: the Euganean Hills, the spa areas of Abano and Montegrotto, before heading towards the historic center of Padua and the finish line in the evocative setting of Prato della Valle, one of the largest squares in Europe. The predominantly flat and fast course attracts thousands of participants every year.
The 2026 edition, the XXVI Padova Marathon, takes place on Sunday, April 26, and also passes through Montegrotto Terme. Approximately 6,000 athletes are expected in the competitive races and over 35,000 participants in the non-competitive runs.
The Padova Half Marathon (21.097 km) starts from the spa area between Abano and Montegrotto and immediately heads towards the center of Montegrotto Terme. The marathon (42.195 km) touches the Euganean Hills and the spa areas before heading towards Padua. The non-competitive city runs of 1, 5, and 10 km complete the program. The finish line is in Prato della Valle.
