Our Lady of Loreto Festival at San Salvatore in Lauro

How it went in 2025

In 2025, the historic center of Rome once again hosted its December Lauretan appointment. The novena preceded the solemnity with daily prayer in the sanctuary; on the evening of December 9th, the statue of Our Lady of Loreto was taken to Santa Maria della Pace, from where the traditional Procession of Light departed at dusk towards San Salvatore in Lauro, with the faithful following while carrying lit torches according to the medieval custom that recalls the Angels' journey to Loreto.

Upon returning to the square, the festival continued with fireworks and the lighting of the Baroque machine, while on December 10th, the solemnity of the Blessed Virgin of Loreto was celebrated with masses throughout the day and the solemn pontifical mass in the evening, in the presence of confraternities and associations of Marche natives residing in the capital.
