2025 Opera Season
The 2025 season of the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania confirmed the tradition of opening the year with an opera by Vincenzo Bellini, a hallmark of the Catania Lyric Institution. The curtain rose from January 18 to 26, 2025, with Norma, a lyric tragedy in two acts with a libretto by Felice Romani, conducted by Leonardo Sini and directed by Hugo De Ana. The title role was alternated between Jessica Pratt and Irina Lungu, joined by Antonio Poli, Elisa Balbo/Aya Wakizono, and Carlo Lepore.
The opera and dance program featured seven titles—five operas and two ballets—confirming the Catania theatre's role as the primary operatic institution in Eastern Sicily, within the Sicily Region.
