The day that reopened the Campo dei Monaci

On September 27, 2025, in San Giorgio del Sannio, the Campo dei Monaci was returned to the community after a redevelopment project costing approximately 700,000 euros, funded by the government's «Sport e Periferie» program. The field, established in the 1970s as a recreational space for the orphanage next to the Santissima Annunziata convent of the Friars Minor, is now a sports and social center.

The day began at 3:30 PM with an open day and exhibitions by local sports organizations — rugby, touch, volleyball, archery, rhythmic gymnastics, tennis, and soccer, with the participation of Benevento Calcio, the Campo dei Monaci soccer school, and Rugby San Giorgio del Sannio 1973, among others — followed at 6:00 PM by the official ceremony and ribbon-cutting, in the presence of civil, sports, and religious authorities, with Paralympic athlete Francesco Iannelli as the guest of honor.

From that day on, the field became the hub of a social project aimed at introducing sports to children from lower-income families: the direct premise for the Open Camp Fest, the summer festival that animated the same space for two months in 2026.
