Notti disiata 2025 — 26th edition

The 26th edition of Notti disiata — Verses, sounds and songs of Christmas in the cultured and folk tradition took place on Friday, December 26, 2025, starting at 5:30 PM, in the church of Santa Caterina Vergine e Martire, along Via Garibaldi in Messina. The evening opened with the ancient pastoral sounds of the novena, performed by the Peloritani ciaramiddari — Salvatore Vinci, Rosario Altadonna, Antonio and Francesco Catanese — with the "a paro" bagpipe. The program continued with the "Classic Christmas" moment, featuring soprano Francesca Morabito and organist Maria Assunta Munafò, as well as melodies from the Mediterranean guitar quartet. Finally, there was room for novenas and begging songs, including "Nannaredde", performed by A Nova Orquestra, the instrumental and vocal ensemble from Castelbuono led by multi-instrumentalist Gioacchino Cannizzaro, in their first performance in Messina. Ethnomusicologist Mario Sarica guided the audience through the listening experience. The festival was promoted by the Kíklos Association and the Museum of Popular Culture and Music of the Peloritani, with free admission.
