Ancient music in the most beautiful places of the province of Pesaro and Urbino
Musicae Amoeni Loci is one of the most beloved festivals of ancient and choral music in the Marche region, a summer itinerary that crosses the province of Pesaro and Urbino, bringing Renaissance and Baroque repertoire to some of the most beautiful places in the area. The Latin name, meaning "music of pleasant places," encapsulates the very spirit of the event: making madrigals, sonatas, and choral music resonate within noble palaces, churches, parish churches, cloisters, castles, and historic gardens, where architecture and landscape become an integral part of the listening experience.
The festival is promoted and organized by the Coro Jubilate di Candelara, a leading choral group in the Pesaro area, under the artistic direction of Maestro Willem Peerik. Each edition offers a thematic journey that highlights historical figures, events, and inspirations related to the province of Pesaro and Urbino, intertwining music, words, and dance to convey the sense of an era to the public through its sound language.
The festival is by nature widespread: concerts are held in Pesaro and in numerous municipalities in the province. Among the venues that have hosted the event over the years are Palazzo Montani Antaldi and the Church of the Name of God in Pesaro, the Pieve di Santo Stefano in Candelara, the Castle and the Olive Garden of Gradara, the Cloister of San Marco in Mombaroccio, the Hypogeum Grotto of Piagge in Terre Roveresche, as well as villas, churches, and scenic spots in Monteciccardo, Vallefoglia, and Sant'Angelo in Lizzola. Some events are held at dawn, to accompany the awakening with ancient music in natural settings of great charm.
A distinctive feature of Musicae Amoeni Loci is the free admission by donation: the proceeds from the concerts are donated to charity, thus combining cultural promotion with a charitable purpose. The festival represents a precious event for lovers of ancient music and for anyone who wants to discover the Marche hinterland through a journey that links historical-artistic heritage, landscape, and musical tradition, in the heart of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region.
For the summer of 2026, the Musicae Amoeni Loci festival confirms its traveling format, with concerts of ancient and choral music distributed between Pesaro and the province's municipalities, from June to August. The festival is organized by the Jubilate Choir of Candelara under the artistic direction of Maestro Willem Peerik, with the aim of enhancing the historical-artistic, musical, and landscape heritage of the province of Pesaro and Urbino.
Among the events announced for 2026 is a production dedicated to "Dido and Aeneas" by Henry Purcell, one of the masterpieces of Baroque musical theater, scheduled at the evocative Villa Le Limonaie di Muraglia in Pesaro. Admission to the concerts is, as is tradition, by free donation.
