A Halloween night in the heart of Rome's underground

Mostruosamente Forte is the benefit event that turns the CSOA Forte Prenestino in Rome's Centocelle district into one of the most anticipated gatherings of the capital's countercultural scene every October 31st. For over two decades, this 19th-century military fort—occupied and self-managed since 1986—has opened its workshops, courtyards, and iconic tunnelone (main tunnel) for a festival that blends music, art, and social activism in the city's most evocative setting: stone galleries and underground passages that become dancefloors and exhibition spaces.

Sound systems, dub, and bass music

The musical heartbeat of the night is sound system culture: dub, reggae, dancehall, and bass music resonate through the main tunnel on custom-built rigs, following a twenty-year tradition that has hosted legendary names from the international scene. Surrounding the main stage, the various areas of the Fort offer different atmospheres, from the dark and post-punk vibes of the internal pubs to DJ sets that keep the night alive until dawn. Each edition features a unique theme that defines its musical and visual soul.

Beyond music: art, workshops, and monsters

Starting in the late afternoon, the social center's self-managed workshops come alive with installations, performances, juggling, projections, exhibitions, and horror-themed decor. Entering the festival feels like walking through a scenic path of decorated courtyards, monstrous characters, and spaces transformed for the occasion. A wine bar, popular kitchen, and refreshment points keep the night fueled with local food and craft beers.

Piccoli Brividi: family-friendly fun

In the early afternoon, before darkness falls, the Fort dedicates a space to the little ones with Piccoli Brividi (Little Shivers), a child- and family-friendly event featuring games, costumes, and creative workshops. This ensures that Mostruosamente Forte remains an intergenerational event, bridging the gap between festive celebration and political activism.

A benefit night

The event was born and continues every year as a benefit night: all proceeds support the historic occupation of Forte Prenestino and the social center's activities. Beyond the party, Mostruosamente Forte is a way to showcase the identity of Centocelle and a self-managed space that has been a beacon for independent culture in Lazio and all of Rome for decades.
