The Cellar Festival in the medieval village of Ostra Vetere
Montenovo in Festa is the most anticipated food and wine event of the winter in Ostra Vetere, a municipality in the Province of Ancona, in the heart of the Marche region and the Misa Valley. Known as the Cellar Festival in the Village, the festival takes place annually between late January and the first days of February in the charming medieval village of Montenovo, the historic hilltop core of the town, made of stone alleys, arches, and loggias.
The heart of the festival lies in the ancient cellars of the historic center, managed by local associations, which for the occasion reopen their doors and transform into welcoming tasting points. Here, you can sample the authentic flavors of traditional Marche cuisine accompanied by local wines, while musical entertainment enlivens every corner of the village. Along the food and wine route, between one cellar and another, you'll find craft markets, itinerant folk groups, and exhibitions set up in the historic spaces of the town.
In addition to food and wine, Montenovo in Festa offers a rich entertainment program: live concerts in the evenings, DJ sets, dance performances, comedy shows, and entertainment for children. In recent years, the event has enriched its offerings with original proposals such as escape rooms set in the village spaces, designed to engage younger audiences and families.
Organized by the Municipality of Ostra Vetere together with local associations and the Pro Loco, Montenovo in Festa is much more than a local festival: it's an opportunity to rediscover the identity, traditions, and cultural and gastronomic heritage of a small Marche village, promoting tourism in smaller centers. Admission is free, and the atmosphere, between the lights of the cellars and the aroma of typical dishes, makes every edition an unmissable event for those who want to experience the authentic charm of the Marche hinterland.
The 26th edition of Montenovo in Festa confirmed the success of the Cellar Festival, enlivening the medieval village of Ostra Vetere from January 30 to February 1, 2026. The cellars managed by local associations offered tastings of wine and traditional Marche dishes, accompanied by music in the cellars, markets in the loggia, and exhibitions in the historic center, including a photographic exhibition at the Civic Museum. The municipal administration thanked the associations, sponsors, volunteers, and law enforcement for the success of the event, dedicated to promoting tourism in small villages.
