Montalto within the Walls (and To See the Stars Again)

Two evenings by candlelight

On August 22 and 23, 2025, the historic center of Montalto di Castro hosted the fourth edition of «Montalto tra le mura» and the third of the «A riveder le stelle» path. The common thread was the sea: nets, sails, and shades of blue accompanied visitors along a route of over ten thousand candles that crossed the alleys and small squares of the village.

Both evenings, the exhibition route and street food stalls opened at 6:00 PM, with roving workshops for children and Kamishibai readings by the Il Bianconiglio bookstore. Musical entertainment alternated between Viale Garibaldi and Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, while the candlelit walk kicked off at 9:00 PM. Puppets, roving characters, stilt walkers, clowns, and fire shows enlivened the streets until late at night.

The edition gave particular space to local and organic products, with tastings of Lazio Maremma excellence, including Maremma meats. The final tally, communicated by the Municipality, exceeded six thousand visitors in the historic center alone.

Friday, August 22 — 6:00 PM opening of the exhibition route and street food; 6:30 PM roving workshop for children by Libreria Il Bianconiglio, Kamishibai readings; 7:30 PM musical entertainment with Cris DJ on Viale Garibaldi; 9:00 PM inauguration and opening of the «A riveder le stelle» candlelit walk; 10:00 PM musical entertainment with Moà in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti. Saturday, August 23 — 6:00 PM opening of the exhibition route; 7:30 PM wooden games on Viale Garibaldi; 8:00 PM musical entertainment with Irma on Viale Garibaldi; 9:00 PM «A riveder le stelle» candlelit walk. Both evenings: puppets, roving character shows, stilt walkers, clowns, and fire shows in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, plus the photo contest.

Over ten thousand candles lit in the historic center; sea theme for decorations and sets; more than six thousand visitors; tastings of organic Maremma meats and locally sourced products.
