Mons Jovis 2025: depopulation and climate crisis

The third edition of the Mons Jovis Mountain Festival was held in Campo di Giove, in the province of L'Aquila, from July 10 to 13, 2025. The main theme of the edition was the future of Apennine villages amidst depopulation and the climate crisis. The main meetings took place in Piazza Duval and at the Orsa Minore Camping, with debates on the repopulation of small mountain towns and the future of skiing in the Apennines.

Guests of the edition included mountain writer Stefano Ardito, the President of the Abruzzo Region Marco Marsilio, the President of the Maiella National Park Luciano Zazzara, and numerous local administrators. There were also guided hikes on the Maiella, including the ascent to Monte Porrara and sections of the Freedom Trail, climbing demonstrations by the CAI, and performances by the Gran Sasso Choir of L'Aquila. The festival concluded with the ceremony for the Mons Jovis Literary Prize.
