The Molfetta Carnival in 2025

In 2025, the Molfetta Carnival did not take place: the tradition, interrupted in 2012, remained suspended and the city was still awaiting the project that would allow its return.

The roots of the festival are deep. The first documented forms of the Molfetta Carnival date back to the 1950s, with references to even older rites. Over the decades, the streets of the historic center of Molfetta, in the province of Bari, had been filled with popular masks — from the "incappucciato" to the "zingarella" — and confetti, up to the final rite of the "funeral of the Carnival," the satirical funeral procession also animated by masked fishmongers.

Even without parades, in 2025 the memory of this carnival identity remained alive in the community, laying the foundations for the great rebirth of the following year in Puglia.
