MessinaInMusica – Musical Competition for Messinese Composers

The inaugural edition

The first edition of MessinaInMusica, organized by the Ente Autonomo Regionale Teatro di Messina, kicked off in May 2025 with the goal of promoting and raising awareness of the musical heritage of 19th-century Messinese composers. Auditions were held at the Sala Laudamo on May 27 and 28, while the final concert and awards ceremony took place on May 30, 2025, at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele.

Thirty candidates participated in the inaugural edition. The closing concert, featuring an ensemble from the Theater's orchestra conducted by Prof. Michele Amoroso, brought works by Messinese authors back to the stage, such as Giovanni Zappalà (Andrienne Minuetto), Nicola Moleti (Valse Langoureuse), Alfredo Cuscinà (Fantasia Romantica and Danza Araba), and Salvatore Arnò (Fuochi di carnevale), restoring a long-forgotten repertoire to the city on the Strait.
