Meraner Festspiele

The 2025 edition of the Meraner Festspiele featured the world premiere of "Der große Aufbruch – Michael Gaismair, die Täufer und wir" ("The Great Departure – Michael Gaismair, the Anabaptists, and Us"), a new play by Tyrolean playwright Luis Zagler. The show, dedicated to one of the most significant figures in Tyrolean history, the peasant leader Michael Gaismair, retraced the great social and religious upheavals of five centuries ago, building a bridge to the questions of our time. Performances took place in the festival area above the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, next to St. Valentine's Church, from July 2 to 22, 2025, starting at 9:00 PM. The production, featuring music by South Tyrolean composer Marco Diana, saw sold-out evenings and a warm reception from the audience.
