The 2025 edition

In August 2025, Roccantica, a village in the Sabine Mountains in the province of Rieti, renewed its historical re-enactment dedicated to the events of 1059, when the community defended Pope Nicholas II from the allied troops of the antipope Benedict X.

As per tradition, the historic center hosted four days of costumed processions, taverns, artisan workshops, and performances by flag-wavers, drummers, and fire-eaters. The most attended moment was on August 15th, with the Procession of the Assumption among the torches and the grand fire show that closed the edition at midnight. The final day was also combined with a sunset walk towards the heights above the village, returning in time for the evening in the village.
