Edition 2025 โ Mascarata
Mascarata 2025 โ A Baroque rebirth
The second edition of Mascarata was held in Ragusa from May 2 to 4, 2025, maintaining the three-day format across the historic center and Ragusa Ibla. Organized by the Pietra Viva Association, the event aimed to rediscover the beauty of the territory, architecture, and post-earthquake art through the mascheroni, the stone sculptures that adorn the corbels of Baroque balconies and guard the city's memory.
The 2025 program included the roundtable "I mille volti dei mascheroni" (The thousand faces of the masks), where scholars discussed the function and expressiveness of these works, as well as cultural walks, the collective exhibition "Testimoni del Tempo" (Witnesses of Time), itinerant theatrical performances, two art contests, and two live music sessions. The event culminated in a masked parade that ironically connected upper Ragusa to Ragusa Ibla. This edition was also notable for its inclusive approach, featuring the participation of Anffas Ragusa.
