The Nativity comes to life at Parco Trinità Manenti, at the foot of Mount Etna
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every December, the Parco Trinità Manenti in Mascalucia—a town in the province of Catania nestled on the southeastern slopes of Mount Etna—is transformed into the setting for the Living Nativity, one of the most evocative Nativity representations in the Etna region. The initiative, titled "Luce per illuminare le genti", is organized by the San Vito Martire Festival Committee, which every year involves dozens of performers, costume designers, artists, and local artisans in the reconstruction of scenes, sets, and traditional trades of the past.
The path leads visitors through a Nativity village recreated among the park's trees: workshops of ancient crafts, scenes of rural life, lit fires, music, and lights accompany the walk toward the hut housing the Holy Family. The event features traditional animals and settings that weave together art, spirituality, and Sicilian folk traditions, capturing the atmosphere of a Christmas from days gone by.
Born in 2023, the Mascalucia Living Nativity has grown rapidly: in December 2024, the 2nd edition took place on December 27, 28, and 29, while in December 2025, the event returned with a new edition, cementing its place among the most cherished Christmas appointments in the Etna town. The natural setting of Parco Trinità Manenti, the green lung of Mascalucia, helps make the experience unique in the panorama of living nativities in eastern Sicily.
An event that combines the religious dimension of Christmas with the preservation of local popular traditions, in the heart of the province of Catania.
The 2026 edition of the Mascalucia Living Nativity does not yet have an official date announced. Based on previous editions, the representation should return during the Christmas period at Parco Trinità Manenti, with free admission, performers in costume, ancient crafts, and the customary atmosphere of lights and music. The detailed program will be announced by the San Vito Martire Festival Committee closer to the event.
