Edition 2025 — MARetica

The 2025 edition of MARetica took place in Procida from September 12 to 14, at Largo delle Papere in the village of Terra Murata, following a «Maretica Preview» held at the end of August. The MARetica Prize, with its renewed formula, was awarded to Mediterranea Saving Humans, accepted by president Laura Marmorale. The program included conferences on the law of the sea, screenings, concerts, a photography exhibition, and the collective SUP crossing from Miseno to Vivara.

MARetica 2025: the sea as an ethical issue

From September 12 to 14, 2025, Procida hosted the edition that marked the change in the festival's formula: after seven seasons dedicated to the best «sea narrative», the MARetica Prize was awarded for the first time to an organization active in the field, the NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans, with president Laura Marmorale accepting the award on Saturday, September 13.

The event had been preceded by a «Maretica Preview» at the end of August, with the screening of Alissa Jung's debut film and the presentation of Claudio Fogu's volume on the Mediterranean imaginary in the history of Italy. The three main days, at Largo delle Papere in Terra Murata, alternated the conference of the University of Naples L'Orientale and AssIDMer on sustainable fishing and the law of the sea, the screening of the documentary 33 Isole on Lucio Bellomo's sailing journey, Viola Ardone's talk on solidarity in the Mediterranean, and concerts by Psychè and the Moncalieri Jazz Festival Orchestra with the San Leonardo Polyphonic Choir.

The picture was completed by the photography exhibition «Lofoten. Sulla rotta dello stoccafisso» by Natalino Russo, the Maretica Ragazzi Prize for reviews of Calvino's Cosmicomics written by students of the «Antonio Capraro» school, and, on Sunday the 14th, the collective SUP crossing from Miseno to Vivara.
