Edition 2025 — Mamma(che)Roma!

Casal Bertone, a working-class neighborhood in Rome's Municipio IV made famous by Pasolini's film Mamma Roma, has long been a ground for urban art and grassroots regeneration. From this fabric, the Mamma(che)Roma! festival was born, promoted by VenUS Urban Art to bring murals, workshops, and local culture to an authentic Roman district, far from the tourist circuits of the historic center.

Casal Bertone and street art

Even before becoming a festival, Casal Bertone was a neighborhood with a natural bond with urban art. Born from early 20th-century urban planning and grown through public housing, the district in Rome's Municipio IV preserves the memory of Pier Paolo Pasolini's cinema — he filmed Mamma Roma with Anna Magnani here — and offers walls, underpasses, and courtyards that lend themselves to becoming open-air canvases.

It is in this context that VenUS Urban Art, a Roman association active at the intersection of feminism and urban art, built the Mamma(che)Roma! project: a street art festival designed to enhance the neighborhood through new murals, workshops, and participatory paths, with a particular focus on public art created by women. A community effort that restores new spaces of beauty and social life to Casal Bertone, in the Lazio region.
