Magma Debut 2025
The fourth edition of Magma Debut, the summer spin-off of the Short Film Festival (in its 24th edition in 2025), took place in Catania from June 16 to 20, 2025: the opening night at the Arena Argentina and subsequent evenings at the Cinema King. Five international debut films competed:
- June 16: Cherry Juice by Mersiha Husagic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), with the director in attendance
- June 17: U Are the Universe by Pavlo Ostrikov (Ukraine)
- June 18: Meat by Dimitris Nakos (Greece), in collaboration with the Trieste Film Festival on tour
- June 19: The Village Next to Paradise by Mo Harawe (Somalia-France)
- June 20: Piggy by Carlota Pereda (Spain)
The 2025 Debut Award was assigned by the jury composed of Davide del Degan, Giovanna Santaera, and Pietro Parolin. Simultaneously, the first Magma Summer School, organized by the Scarti Cultural Association, took place.
