Edition 2025 — Madonna della Civita
The festival during the Holy Year
In 2025, the Madonna della Civita Festival in Itri was part of the journey of the Ordinary Jubilee, which brought with it the strong theme of hope. The parish priest, Fr. Guerino Piccione, had invited the community to become «pilgrims of hope», calling on the faithful to build concrete signs of peace with words, gestures, and attitudes, and to invoke the Madonna as Mother of Hope and Queen of Peace.
A thousand-year-old sanctuary
The Archdiocese of Gaeta prepared for the solemnities of July 21st with the ancient sanctuary ready to welcome thousands of faithful and pilgrims, many of whom climbed on foot along the mountain road. The celebrations extended over several days in July, accompanied in town by the Madonna della Civita Fair, an event so deeply rooted that the Municipality of Itri arranged for an extraordinary rescheduling of the weekly market to allow it to take place.
The final moment was held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, in Piazza Annunziata: from 9:00 AM, the Archbishop of Gaeta, Msgr. Luigi Vari, presided over the celebration of the Eucharist and the procession, with great participation from the faithful of Itri and pilgrims who arrived from all over the Archdiocese.
