Madonna del Castagno Festival

The 2025 Madonna del Castagno Festival was held from August 29 to 31 in the San Silvestro area of Monte Compatri, in the Castelli Romani, organized by the Confraternita SS. Trinità in Algido together with the Parrocchia S. Maria Assunta in Cielo and the Roman Province of the Discalced Carmelites.

The edition coincided with the 350th anniversary of the construction of the sanctuary, erected in 1675 to house the image of the Virgin painted on a chestnut trunk. For the occasion, Bishop Stefano Russo granted a jubilee elevation to the festival days: the faithful were able to obtain an indulgence under the conditions provided by the Holy See.

The program alternated liturgical celebrations and popular festivities: daily Holy Masses, Vespers and Rosary at the sanctuary, and the solemn Sunday Mass presided over by the bishop with the blessing of local businesses and organizations. On the convent lawn, traditional games took place - sack races, tug-of-war, ring toss - along with a regional chess tournament, a mini-golf competition, rides and inflatables for children, food stands, and live music. On Sunday evening, the festival concluded with fireworks over the Tusculum woods.
