About Made in Sicily

Made in Sicily is a three-day festival held every September, celebrating the most authentic heart of Sicilian culture in Aci Sant'Antonio, a town near Catania world-renowned as the capital of the traditional Sicilian cart. Organized by the local Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality, the event brings the Opera dei Pupi (puppet theater), parades of hand-painted carts accompanied by folk groups in traditional costume, and Sicilian folk music concerts to Piazza Maggiore. It is a journey through storytelling, ballads, and tarantellas—all free of charge—designed to rediscover the island's heritage and share it with audiences of all ages.

Three days dedicated to the soul of Sicily

Made in Sicily is a festival held each September in Aci Sant'Antonio, in the province of Catania, showcasing the island's cultural, folkloric, and artisanal heritage over three evenings. Organized by the Pro Loco of Aci Sant'Antonio with the patronage of the Municipality, the event finds its natural stage in the central Piazza Maggiore, transforming the town into an open-air laboratory of Sicilian traditions.

Aci Sant'Antonio, the city of the Sicilian cart

The choice of Aci Sant'Antonio is no coincidence: this town near Catania, nestled at the foot of Mount Etna and part of the "Nove Aci" area, is universally recognized as the city of the Sicilian cart. Since the 18th century, local workshops have specialized in the construction, repair, and especially the decoration of these carts, which are now preserved in the local Museo del Carretto Siciliano. Their hand-painted side panels, featuring chivalric scenes dedicated to the paladins of France, make the cart a true icon of Sicily. Made in Sicily was created specifically to celebrate this identity and share it with both the local community and visitors.

Culture, folklore, and folk music

The program weaves together three major pillars of Sicilian tradition. There is the Opera dei Pupi, the puppet theater recognized as one of the island's most iconic symbols, recounting the deeds of the paladins of France. There is the parade of hand-painted Sicilian carts, accompanied by folk groups in traditional costume performing dances, songs, and playing traditional instruments through the town center. And there is contemporary Sicilian folk music, with evening concerts blending storytelling, ballads, and tarantellas with modern arrangements.

A festival for everyone, with free admission

All Made in Sicily events are free to attend, a choice that makes the festival accessible to families, curious travelers, tradition enthusiasts, and tourists visiting the Etna region. Located just a few kilometers from Catania and the Riviera dei Ciclopi, Aci Sant'Antonio offers the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in living, authentic folklore, far from the more crowded tourist circuits.

The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers; the festival typically takes place in September. We recommend following the official channels of the Pro Loco of Aci Sant'Antonio for the updated calendar and the final program.
