Contemporary textile art spread across the cultural venues of Busto Arsizio
M(A)Y FIBER is the festival dedicated to contemporary textile art — fiber art — which enlivens Busto Arsizio every spring, in the province of Varese, a city with a deep textile and industrial identity. Organized by the Municipality, it weaves together tradition, artistic research, and sustainability, transforming fabric into a language capable of speaking of memory, identity, and the future.
The heart of the festival is the historic MINIARTEXTIL exhibition, curated by the Arte&Arte association of Como, which gathers works by dozens of international artists — from miniatures (20x20x20 cm) to monumental installations. Around this main exhibition, a widespread path of exhibitions unfolds in the city's cultural venues, from the Textile Museum to Palazzo Marliani Cicogna, including unusual spaces like the correctional facility.
M(A)Y FIBER is not just an exhibition: the program includes guided tours, workshops for families, artist demonstrations (such as natural dyeing), and book presentations on sustainability and the history of Italian fashion. The involvement of inmates through workshops in prison is significant, making art a tool for reintegration and social dialogue.
Part of the Varese Cultura 2030 project and supported by the Lombardy Region, the Province of Varese, and Fondazione Cariplo, the festival enhances Busto Arsizio's textile vocation by bringing art out of museums and into urban spaces. It's an opportunity to rediscover, through thread and fiber, the soul of a city and to reflect on contemporary issues.
The 3rd edition of M(A)Y FIBER is held in Busto Arsizio from May 10 to June 7, 2026, on the theme of contemporary textile art between tradition, research, and sustainability. At its heart is the exhibition MINIARTEXTIL 34 'Eternal Desire', curated by the Arte&Arte association of Como, with works by 54 international artists including Joana Vasconcelos, Joel Andrianomearisoa, and Paolo Gonzato. Eight exhibitions are spread across the Textile Museum, Palazzo Marliani Cicogna, and other venues, including the correctional facility. Free admission to the main venues.
The exhibitions are set up in various venues in Busto Arsizio (VA): Museo del Tessile, Palazzo Marliani Cicogna, correctional facility, and other spaces.
Busto Arsizio is served by the FS and Ferrovie Nord stations and the A8 Milan-Varese motorway.
Free admission to the main venues; guided tours and workshops by reservation.
