The meeting of choirs in the Benedictine Abbey of San Lorenzo in Campo
The Laurentina Choral Review is the event that, for eighteen editions now, has brought choral singing to the heart of San Lorenzo in Campo, a small municipality in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Cesano Valley. Organized by the Jubilate Choir in collaboration with the municipal administration, the review is an important occasion for artistic and cultural enrichment for the Laurentina choir and a precious moment for sharing experiences with the invited choral groups.
The evening takes place in the splendid setting of the Benedictine Abbey of San Lorenzo in Campo, considered one of the most beautiful Romanesque-Gothic monuments in the entire Marche region. Built by Benedictine monks starting from the Early Middle Ages and proclaimed a Basilica in 1943 by Pope Pius XII, the church preserves ancient grey Egyptian granite columns inside, which, according to tradition, come from the nearby Roman city of Suasa. The acoustics and the intimate atmosphere of the naves make the Abbey the ideal place to listen to the choirs' voices.
The host is the Jubilate Choir, founded in San Lorenzo in Campo in 2004 and directed by Maestro Olinto Petrucci: its repertoire ranges from sacred and secular polyphony to folk and traditional songs. Each year, it is joined by some guest choirs invited from the Marche region and beyond. In recent editions, the «Vincenzo Cruciani» Choir of Ancona and the «Luigi Tonini Bossi» Choir of Senigallia, among others, have taken part in the review, each with its own repertoire and conductor. The program for each evening alternates between the different groups, in a dialogue of voices that spans eras and styles.
The Laurentina Review is traditionally held between the end of May and the beginning of summer, annually, and has established itself as one of the defining musical events of San Lorenzo in Campo and the entire Cesano Valley. It is a good opportunity to discover a village in the Marche hinterland, the Abbey, and the region's choral culture. Admission is free.
The 2026 edition, the eighteenth, of the Laurentina Choral Review took place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 9:15 PM in the Benedictine Abbey of San Lorenzo in Campo (PU). Confirmed by the Jubilate Choir's website and the Municipality's tourism page, the evening reprised the usual format: the Jubilate Choir, the host, conducted by Maestro Olinto Petrucci, in dialogue with guest choirs, featuring sacred and secular polyphony and songs of popular tradition. Admission was free.
The 18th edition was held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 9:15 PM in the Benedictine Abbey of San Lorenzo in Campo, with the Jubilate Choir (conductor M° Olinto Petrucci) and invited guest choirs. The complete list of participating choirs for the 2026 edition was not published on the official sources consulted.
