Edition 2025 — Ladin Carnival of Canazei

In 2025, the Ladin Carnival of Canazei once again renewed its centuries-old tradition. Starting January 17th, the feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot, the Grop de la Mèscres de Dèlba e Penìa animated the villages of Penia and Alba with Ladin-language mascherèdes, parades, and dances. The Laché, Bufon, and Marascons masks, with their hand-carved facères, accompanied residents and guests in the festive atmosphere typical of the Val di Fassa.

Ladin Carnival of Canazei 2025

The 2025 edition confirmed the vitality of one of the oldest carnivals in the Alps. Starting on January 17th, the feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot, the carnival season enlivened the villages of Penia and Alba di Canazei with mascherèdes—theatrical comedies in the Ladin language performed in the former elementary school hall of Penia by the Grop de la Mèscres de Dèlba e Penìa.

As is customary, the evenings concluded with the division of the masks into facères da bel and da burt, and the traditional Bal del barbier. Parades of the Laché, Bufon, and Marascons masks, masked balls, and mountain flavors combined folklore, gastronomy, and Ladin identity in the municipality of Canazei, in Trentino.
