La Mattra di San Giuseppe 2025
On March 19, 2025, Guagnano renewed the ritual of the Mattra di San Giuseppe, one of the most evocative in Salento. Families prepared banquet tables with bread, flowers, sweets, and traditional dishes, which, according to tradition, were also intended for the needy as a sign of solidarity.
In the afternoon, from 3:00 PM, the procession of the Mattra began through the streets of the historic center, cheered by the brass band. At 6:00 PM, the procession arrived in the square, where the blessing of the mattre took place. A day of faith, popular culture, and community that involved the entire town in the Municipality of Guagnano, in the Province of Lecce.
