Opera returns to the Court Theatre of the Royal Villa of Monza
La Grande Opera in Villa marks an important return: the first opera season at the Court Theatre of the Royal Villa of Monza, the historic theatre of the Villa Reale reopened after restoration. In the heart of Brianza, in one of the most evocative spaces of Monza's heritage, opera music takes centre stage again with a programme of four great titles from the repertoire.
The season features great Italian and international opera classics in a special format, the Opéra-comique version, which intertwines singing, acting, and dance with piano accompaniment and sets and costumes. The programme includes Mozart's The Magic Flute, Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Verdi's La Traviata, and Rossini's The Barber of Seville: a journey through some of the most beloved titles ever, made accessible and engaging by this reinterpretation.
Artistic direction is entrusted to Gabriele D.G. Bolletta, with Yuka Gohda on piano. Bringing opera back to the Court Theatre means returning to the city of Monza and the entire Brianza region a place of culture and entertainment that is part of its history. For the public, it is an opportunity to experience melodrama masterpieces in a highly charming setting, in a unique dialogue between music and historical heritage.
