Edition 2025 — La Bassa di Terra Rossa

In the summer of 2025, the Maritime Alps Protected Areas dedicated the season to discovering the fortified heritage with a cycle of six cross-border hikes — Border Fortifications — between the Vermenagna, Roya, Gesso, and Stura valleys. The walks, led by Park Guides along the ancient military paths of the Alpine Wall, also featured outings in the upper Stura Valley, in the territory of Argentera, as part of a journey to understand the frontier history between Italy and France.

The 2025 season of the ALCOTRA Cognitio-Fort project proposed the Border Fortifications cycle, six guided walks led by the Park Guides of the Maritime Alps Protected Areas between the Vermenagna, Roya, Gesso, and Stura valleys.

From the Tenda Pass to the Barbacana Pass, from the Valscura trek to the Selletta del Becco Rosso, up to the Fremamorta Pass and the Andonno-Valdieri loop, the excursions guided participants along the ancient military paths of the Alpine Wall, among defensive works, bunkers, and high-altitude landscapes. In this context, outings in the upper Stura Valley, in the municipality of Argentera (CN), were also included, dedicated to discovering the fortifications defending the sector. A program that combined mountains, memory, and cross-border collaboration between Italy and France.
