Jurnate del Design

The first edition of the Jurnate del Design was held from February 24 to March 1, 2025, marking the birth of this participatory design week. Promoted by the Fondazione di Comunità di Messina together with the Milanese creative team The Playful Living, it brought seven workshops to different locations in Sicily: Messina, Palermo, Roccavaldina, Novara di Sicilia, Mirabella Imbaccari, and Salina.

Each workshop, coordinated by internationally renowned designers such as Luca Fois and Bernardo Corbellini, involved high schools, citizens, and local decision-makers to design objects capable of embodying the genius loci of the places. Among the themes addressed: Messinese goldsmithing intertwined with the bobbin lace of Mirabella Imbaccari, Sicilian ceramics, and new bioplastics derived from beer and coffee waste experimented with in Roccavaldina. The results of the work were presented at the end of July as part of the Horcynus Festival 2025.
