Edition 2025 — Jurnate del Design

The first edition of Jurnate del Design took place from February 24 to March 1, 2025, transforming Sicily into a widespread laboratory of the future. From Messina to Palermo, from Roccavaldina to Novara di Sicilia, and on to Mirabella Imbaccari, Caltagirone, and Salina, seven workshops brought together artisans, students, and designers to explore ceramics, goldsmithing, bobbin lace, and green bioplastics.

2025 Edition – the first Sicilian Design Week

The first edition of Jurnate del Design, from February 24 to March 1, 2025, inaugurated the widespread Design Week formula promoted by the Messina Community Foundation. Over one week, seven workshops were held, each in a different location across Sicily: from Messina to Palermo, from Roccavaldina to Novara di Sicilia, and on to Mirabella Imbaccari, Caltagirone, and Salina.

Design was interpreted not as a purely aesthetic experience, but as the planning of craftsmanship, local traditions, and cultures combined with innovation, technology, and social economy. Projects included Messina's goldsmithing art hybridized with the bobbin lace of Mirabella Imbaccari, Sicilian ceramics, and new green bioplastics derived from beer, coffee, and pomace processing waste experimented in Roccavaldina. The workshops involved the Basile Art High School in Messina, the Dalla Chiesa Institute in Caltagirone, the University of Palermo, and various local artisan and production entities.
