About Jesi Drama

The Jesi Drama Season brings the biggest names in Italian theatre to the stage of the historic G.B. Pergolesi Theatre, featuring revisited classics, contemporary drama, and new voices. Promoted by the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation with the Municipality of Jesi and AMAT, the festival animates the winter and spring months with a programme of shows ranging from comedy to civil theatre, from Pirandello to Dario Fo, attracting a loyal audience to the heart of the Marche region every year.

A Drama Season in the Heart of the Marche

The Jesi Drama Season is one of the most anticipated cultural events in the Municipality of Jesi, in the province of Ancona, in the Marche region. Hosted in the splendid Giovanni Battista Pergolesi Theatre in Piazza della Repubblica, a jewel of Italian-style theatre architecture, the festival each year offers a drama programme that blends great classics, contemporary drama, and the new voices of the national scene.

Organisation and Identity

The season is promoted by the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation together with the Municipality of Jesi and AMAT (Marchigiana Association of Theatre Activities), with the support of the Marche Region and the Ministry of Culture. The Jesi drama programme is presented in a unique project with the Spontini Theatre in Maiolati Spontini, offering spectators a theatrical journey that crosses the entire Vallesina area.

A Programme of Big Names

Over the years, the festival has brought some of the most important Italian theatre performers and directors to Jesi. Audiences have been able to enjoy performances with leading actors such as Silvio Orlando, Lella Costa, Massimiliano Gallo, Davide Enia, Lodo Guenzi, and Alessandro Bergonzoni, and productions by internationally renowned directors such as Peter Stein, Emma Dante, Giorgio Gallione, and Serena Sinigaglia.

Between Classics and Contemporary

The programming balances classic repertoire and contemporary research: texts by Pirandello, Dario Fo, and Franca Rame, reinterpretations of the great Greek and Latin authors like Aristophanes, alongside productions by innovative companies like Carrozzeria Orfeo. This variety makes the season suitable for both fans of great traditional theatre and those seeking the newest stage languages.
