IO Saturnalia – Historical Re-enactment Festival

IO Saturnalia 2025

The 2025 edition was held on December 27th and 28th, starting at 10:00 AM, on Via Renato Caccioppoli in the EUR district. The Gruppo Storico Romano, with the support of the Ninth Municipality of Rome Eur, offered two days of re-enactments dedicated to the ancient Saturnalia.

During the event, gladiator combat and ancient dance demonstrations were performed, accompanied by historical explanations, alongside a military castrum with legionaries and praetorians, a reconstruction of a Roman market, and numerous educational stations on cuisine, numismatics, construction techniques, magic, and superstition. A large space was reserved for children with the gladiator school and the ancient dance school. The centerpiece of the two days was the re-enactment of the Saturnalia ritual, performed in the afternoon. Admission was free.
