Edition 2025 — Homage to the Immaculate Conception

On December 8th, 2025, Rome celebrated the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception at Piazza di Spagna. At dawn, the Fire Brigade laid the floral tribute with the aerial ladder on the Column of the Immaculate Conception; in the afternoon, for the first time, Pope Leo XIV reached the square for the act of veneration, welcomed by Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and the Cardinal Vicar. About thirty thousand faithful participated in the ritual, amidst prayer and singing.

The 2025 edition and the first homage of Leo XIV

The celebration of December 8th, 2025, was marked by the debut of Pope Leo XIV at this traditional appointment. In the afternoon, the Pontiff reached Piazza di Spagna, where he was welcomed by Cardinal Vicar Baldo Reina and the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri. He paused in prayer at the foot of the Column of the Immaculate Conception and donated a basket of white roses to the Virgin, entrusting her with a "tried" humanity and the hope of peace.

The day began at dawn with the floral tribute of the Fire Brigade, who climbed the aerial ladder to about 27 meters to place the wreath on the statue's arm. In the morning, the hymn to the Madonna by the Gendarmerie band and Holy Mass at Trinità dei Monti took place. About thirty thousand people, including Romans and Jubilee pilgrims, crowded the square.
