Holy Week / U 'Ncuontru

The 2025 edition of the Holy Week in Petralia Sottana confirmed the identity-defining power of a tradition passed down for centuries in the Madonie village, in the province of Palermo. From the 'Vestizione dell'Addolorata' on Maundy Thursday to the Good Friday procession toward the Calvary, and the 'Caduta du Tiluni' at midnight on Holy Saturday, the rites involved the brotherhoods, the 'Pie Donne', and costumed figures.

The U 'Ncuontru ritual, held at noon on Easter Sunday (April 20, 2025), represented, as every year, the most emotional moment, with the meeting between the Risen Christ and the Madonna in the historic center amidst applause, firecrackers, and white doves.
