Holy Week 2025 in Gallipoli

The 2025 edition followed the usual calendar of Gallipoli rites. Friday of Our Lady of Sorrows, April 11, opened the celebrations with the procession of the Madonna towards the Cathedral. On Good Friday, April 18, the Procession of the Mysteries departed at sunset from the Oratory of the Most Holy Crucifix, while at dawn on Holy Saturday, April 19, the Procession of the Desolata crossed the old town.

As every year, the ten confraternities and over five hundred members renewed a devotion that has its roots in the 16th century, amidst colorful robes, papier-mâché statues, and the sound of the trozzula replacing the bells. The rites attracted numerous faithful and visitors to the historic center of Gallipoli, in the province of Lecce.
