Holy Week 2025 in Marineo

In 2025, the community of Marineo once again experienced the Holy Week rites with intense participation, centered around the Mother Church of Saints Ciro and Giorgio. Palm Sunday opened the celebrations with the blessing of olive branches and the procession following Jesus of Nazareth.

On the night of Maundy Thursday, from midnight until the first light of dawn, devotees gathered at the Santa Cruci and walked through the village streets in small groups, singing the ancient nenie of the Passion to the sound of the troccula, while the Sepulchre was prepared with the characteristic lavureddi. On the evening of Good Friday, the poignant procession of the Addolorata and the Dead Christ, accompanied by the trumpet and bass drum, passed through the historic center amidst the emotion of the faithful. Easter brought the joy of the meeting between the Madonna and the Risen Christ.
