Holy Week Processions (White Procession and Black Procession)

Good Friday 2025 in Sorrento

On April 18, 2025, the historic center of Sorrento experienced its customary double street liturgy. In the heart of the night, at 3:00 AM, the White Procession of the Venerable Archconfraternity of Santa Monica left the Church of the Santissima Annunziata: white robes, black belts, covered faces, and lit torches around the statue of the Madonna Addolorata, while the choir intoned the verses of Psalm 50 in Latin.

In the evening, at 8:30 PM, it was the turn of the Black Procession of the Venerable Archconfraternity of Death, with the Dead Christ carried on shoulders along corso Italia and piazza Tasso, and the symbols of the Passion held in the hands of the members. In 2025, the two processions once again drew thousands of Sorrento residents and Italian and foreign visitors, with free and open access.
