Edition 2025 — Holy Week of Assisi

In 2025, Assisi once again experienced its Holy Week with traditional rites and processions. From Maundy Thursday to Easter, the city's confraternities animated the Deposition of the Cross and the processions of the Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows, between the Cathedral of San Rufino and the Basilica of Saint Francis, within a highly evocative medieval historic center.

Holy Week 2025

In 2025, the celebrations of Holy Week in Assisi renewed the centuries-old tradition of the Umbrian city. Maundy Thursday featured the Deposition of the Cross with the ancient laude of the "Scavigliazione"; on Good Friday, the two most heartfelt processions — the Dead Christ in the morning from the Cathedral of San Rufino and Our Lady of Sorrows in the evening towards the Basilica of Saint Francis — traversed the historic center with hooded confraternities.

As every year, the rites involved the entire community and numerous visitors, confirming Assisi among the symbolic places of Holy Week in Umbria.

Programme

The 2025 rites followed the Assisi tradition:

  • Maundy Thursday: Mass of the Lord's Supper and Deposition of the Cross ("Scavigliazione")
  • Good Friday: procession of the Dead Christ in the morning from the Cathedral of San Rufino; celebration of the Passion; procession of Our Lady of Sorrows towards the Basilica of Saint Francis in the evening
  • Holy Saturday: Easter Vigil
  • Easter Sunday: Solemn Mass
