Holy Week in Leonforte - Good Friday Procession

The return of an ancient tradition

Good Friday, April 18, 2025, in Leonforte was remembered for a particularly touching moment. An ancient custom was brought back to life, where the funeral procession would reach the ancient hospital of the town: here, the brothers handed over their characteristic step, the "annacato" set to the rhythm of the funeral march, to the healthcare workers.

Men and women of the Enna ASP — nurses and doctors — thus carried the fercoli of the Dead Christ and the Addolorata inside the courtyard of the historic hospital, which is under renovation after seventeen years of closure. A gesture that allowed the renewal of the ancient devotion that saw patients looking out from the windows to offer prayers and requests for help to the statues.

Otherwise, the 2025 edition followed the usual sequence of rites: the crucifixion and deposition in the Mother Church, the "u mulimentu" procession through the thirteen churches of the town, and, on Easter Sunday, the meeting between the Risen Christ and the Madonna in the Capuchin square.
